Finally, after more than two months, our fantastic tree guys came to take down five trees! Some were dead and some were damaged in the October 29 storm. The Sunshine Tree and Landscape crew are highly skilled, meticulous and friendly. It was sunny and not too cold (40s), good weather for strenuous outdoor work. A dead hickory and a ready-to-split and storm damaged maple were taken down on the side of the house.
Two partially storm-damaged and leaning trees were taken down behind the shed.
When they were here in 2003 to take down the massive triple-leader tulip poplar and the huge oak tree they didn't have this cherry picker. It made their job quicker and easier, that's for sure.
Amazingly, logs up to 15 inches go in the chipper!!
Must be a great view of the neighborhood from up there!
They tie a rope around the branch, cut it, then lower it gently to the ground.
The chipper is LOUD! The truck was completely filled with chips.
After the truck and Jeep were moved they had room to get the cherry picker on one side of the driveway and the chipper on the other.
They had an ingenious winch/rope system to drag the tree trunks to the driveway.
Since there was no way to get the truck into the backyard, they had to climb this tree to take it down. We asked for a higher stump to be left so there's a new base for the salt lick :-)
When only the large logs were left the claw went into action. Sure was fun to watch!
The logs were placed ever so gently on the truck.

What a thunk that made when it hit! They did such a good job of cleaning up that you'd never even know we'd had tree work done if you didn't see the stumps.
