We were having breakfast at 7:45 on our last full day at South Bay when a gray wolf walked out of the woods near the camper!
It walked around for a minute or so, letting us take these pics through the window and screen, then it went back into the woods. That's our boat trailer in the background. What a wild, beautiful sight to see! The previous evening I was going back and forth to the common room to do laundry while John sat outside. At 6:00 PM he heard some branches breaking. Thinking it might be a beaver, he got up and walked to the edge of the woods and came face-to-face with a bear! John retreated to the camper to get the camera but the bear walked back into the woods before he could get a pic. This end site is our favorite water-view site in all of North America! Oh, and the fishing is good here, too.
The merganser family was a frequent visitor to "our" cove as were the mallards and loons. This pair of goldeneyes tucked their heads under their wings and dozed a bit.
It was thrilling to see the goldeneye duck family. This is a first sighting for us.
The heron easily caught all the fish it wanted while we watched.
Mayflies were everywhere. This big one landed on our window and posed for these interesting pics.
The loons's call is very distinctive. A flock of six swam by frequently.

The view from the deck was always peaceful. Bird watching was very rewarding here. Some of our many sightings were: yellow-rumped warbler, cedar waxwings, pine siskins, chipping sparrows, eagles, hummingbirds, kingbirds, evening grosbeaks, ruffed grouse with her four chicks and of course robins.
Every evening found us sitting on the deck watching....resting....enjoying....
This is the view of camp from the water. Most sites have good views but the end site's is specacular!
Oh yea, we were here to fish, too. The fishing was excellent again. Our daily totals were plentiful with many big ones caught (and released). A big one is 19 inches or above. The weather was great most days, even hot sometimes! We fished every day of our 8-day stay!
A cool wind was blowing this day so I was bundled up.
We feel blessed to be able to spend time at this wonderful spot. This was our 4th time here. The owner is a gem of a hard-working lady who makes everyone feel welcome, like family. We visit with many interesting people who share our love of Canadian walleye fishing. We treasure every moment and experience and look forward to returning here for many years to come.
