Rocky Mountain National Park - West is one of our favorite destinations because of the hikes and the wildlife. This beautiful meadow is so quiet and peaceful and the creek holds many brook trout.
Timber Creek Campground used to be entirely wooded but pine bark beetles destroyed all the mature trees which were cut down a few years ago. Timber Creek is higher in elevation than Moraine Park, our next destination on the east side, so it was cold at night and not hot during the day. One morning there was frost on the ground as we started our hike!
On this early morning hike I was able to get a good reflection picture.
This is why we still like this park! The elk eat the fireplace ashes every day.
Here I am at the headwaters of the Colorado River! We reach the river after hiking about 3.5 miles. We always stop here for a snack and then head back. The river was especially low this year because much of Colorado didn't have much snow last winter.
"Big Boy" came by camp frequently!
"Big Boy" was gathering his harem and bugled to other bulls to let them know he was in charge.
This river was low, too, but still scenic.
