Dahlonega, Georgia

We had a wonderful visit with Marybet and Hoppy. We arrived at their country hideaway on Friday afternoon. Hoppy is a grill master extraordinaire. Friday he grilled steaks and Saturday he marinated and grilled chicken. Ribs next year, right Hoppy? Saturday morning we went into town to the Bear on the Square Festival. Dahlonega is the most charming town I've ever seen. The Festival was held all around the center square.
Dahlonega is Cherokee for gold! There's a gold museum in this building and people still find gold in the region. See Hoppy, John and Marybet above?

There were many bluegrass groups to listen to.

It was a beautiful spring day in northern Georgia.

In addition to the music there were many craftsmen displaying their wares. After church on Sunday we walked through town again to the General Store. The drizzle put a damper on the last day of the festival but the General Store was busy. I bought Georgia peach preserves and Georgia Vidalia onion products and put a quarter in the player piano.

John and Cindy came for a visit on Saturday afternoon. They haven't changed a bit since we last saw them approximately 23 years ago. They live less than an hour away and are familiar with the town and the area. Wow, small world. NJ to PA to GA - they've moved around and it was wonderful to meet up with them again.

Trenton - this lizard is called a skink. It's enjoying the afternoon sun on the driveway.

It was a wonderful visit filled with good times - talking, laughing, eating and generally having fun! Maybe we'll meet up out west this summer.
